Dear Friends,
Search and Care is 40!! 2012 marks our 40th year of providing services to the vulnerable elders of Yorkville, Carnegie Hill and East Harlem...40 years of providing no-fee personalized care to over 10,000 elders, helping each to remain safely at home, with dignity, as long as possible.
What does this care look like? It can be Mr. C who needs help getting Meals on Wheels. It can be Mrs. Q, who needs help paying her bills, or Mr. K who is depressed and relies on our empathic listening and telephone check-ins. It could be Mr. B who has mobility issues and needs our occupational therapist, or Ms. W who is isolated and needs companionship and help with shopping/errands. And then there is Ms. R who needs help caring for pooch Daisy - her only source of affection. Each of them has his or her own set of concerns that come with aging - failing health, isolation, diminishing resources. Our dedicated staff delves deeply to figure out ways to make the daily tasks of living less onerous, and to make life more meaningful. None of this would be possible without your generous support. In 2011, Search and Care:
- Served nearly 700 clients, a record
- Helped 158 with housing issues
- Made 55 referrals for mental health care
- Provided over 3,500 hours of volunteer support
- Worked with 176 clients on bill paying and budgeting
- Remained primarily privately funded (87%), in order to ensure comprehensive, truly compassionate, less restrictive care
